Through a combination of lecture, individual, and group hands-on tabletop activities, this diversity and inclusion training takes a deep dive into the history and causes of discrimination, bias, and microaggressions, among other forms of disparate treatment. Participants are led through a series of self-reflective activities where they examine their own previously held beliefs and assumptions about “the other” and are provided with practical tools to address disparate behaviors on their campuses and classrooms.
For participants to better understand themselves and how to interact with diverse student, staff, and faculty populations.

Malaika Bell received a M.A. in Sociology from The University of Toledo and is currently the Director for the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at her alma mater. A strong advocate for diversity, equity, inclusion and justice, Malaika involves her constituents in dialogue, education and resources to grow their cultural competence. Her professional interests focus on the criminalization of Blackness, and institutionalized oppression, and her current project is adapting DEI trainings to connect individuals as human beings who all share the common understandings of grief, fear and success.
